Trip Description
Climb Iliniza Sur Iliniza Sur (5246m/17,211ft) it’s the sixth highest mountain in the country southwest of Quito near the El Chaupi Village. The Iliniza southern peak has deglaciation changes caused by global warming, affecting its ice conditions, and is thus now reserved for experienced ice climbers. Hence, expertise on ice techniques is requested. The South peak suggests several challenging and demanding routes. This 2-day climb start at night from Nuevos Horizontes refuge at an altitude of 4700m. .

  • The meeting point will be in Quito or El Chaupi Village early in the morning; we will head south through the Avenue of Volcanoes along the Panamerican Highway passed Machachi, an hour later we will be arriving at the parking lot called “La Virgen” at 3,900 meters above sea level. This is where our ascending journey will begin… it normally takes about 2 or 3 hours to make it to the “New Horizons” Refugee that’s 4,700 meters high. We will enjoy a well-deserved lunch and relax a bit for the rest of the afternoon until our staff calls us for dinner.

Day 2: Summit Iliniza Sur (5246m/17,211ft)

  1. Our day will start very early, at 2am with a substantial breakfast that will be served by our kind staff and then we will head to the base where our technical climbing will begin. The estimate climbing time from the base to the summit of this magnificent volcano is about 3 or 4 hours, once at the top, you will be given enough time to rest, enjoy the view and take memorable pictures of the scenery. Our way down should not take more than 2 hours, then back to the refuge. We will pack our stuff and go down to the La Virgen parking lot and drive back to the village of El chaupi and back to Quito.

    Payment

    In order to confirm the reservation of any tour service provided by Cotopaxi Travel Company Cia. Ltda. we require a pre-payment of 30% of the tour price. The remainder is to be carried out before climbing tour or travel starts. We will not send confirmations, vouchers or flight tickets until the full balance has been received, and we reserve the right to cancel your trip if full payment is not received prior to the start date.
    PRICES, SURCHARGES AND CREDIT CARD CHARGES
    All prices we advertise are accurate at the date published/advised, but we reserve the right to change any of those prices prior to booking. Before you make a booking we will give you the up-to-date price of your chosen programme including the cost of any peak-season supplements, upgrades or additional facilities which you have requested.
    For all payments made by credit card, a 6% service fee will be added to the cost. The additional costs for every transfer made out to Cotopaxi Travel Company Cia. Ltda. Ecuadorian Taxes and bank transfer fees, will have to be paid by you, the client. We are obligated tu charge 12% IVA for every payment realized by Ecuadorian citizens.

    Cancellation by You

    Notice of cancellation by you must be given in writing. Should you cancel, the following scale of charges will apply:

    • - 30 days or more before the Departure Date = loss of deposit.
    • - 29 to 15 days from the start of the trip = 50% of total trip cost
    • - Less than 14 days before the Departure Date = loss of 100% of total trip cost,
    • unless agreed otherwise with cotopaxi travel due to unforeseen circumstances.
